Norwegian club Molde FC has officially announced the signing of defender Samukelo Kabini (21) from TS Galaxy, on a record club transfer fee for the Mpumalanga club.
TS Galaxy will pocket R15-million from the deal.
For the Rockets, it’s a great windfall considering Kabini arrived at the club barely two seasons ago, after a stint at Orlando Pirates, where he starred in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC).
He’s penned a three-year deal with Molde that runs until 2028.
“I am very happy to be here in Molde. It has been an exciting few days, and I am looking forward to getting started,” says Kabini.
“I have heard a lot of good things about the club and have seen how Molde performs both in Norway and in Europe. It seems like a fantastic place to develop as a player.”
Molde noted, “Kabini has mostly played left-back and center-back, and he is described as a physically strong and versatile defender with great development potential. He also makes history as Molde FK’s first-ever South African player.”
Moreover, Kabini is on the fringes of South Africa’s senior national team, Bafana Bafana.
Kabini, who hails from Thembalethu in Mpumalanga, made Bafana Bafana’s preliminary squad for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin but didn’t make the final cut.
