German coach Sead Ramovic has called time on his stay at Tanzanian giants, Young Africans.
Ramovic was in the Yanga job for just 81 days, since he joined from South African club, TS Galaxy.
With him at the helm, Young Africans, otherwise known as Yanga, are second on the log behind bitter rivals Simba in Ligi Kuu Bara, which is Tanzania’s top flight.
Ramovic’s departure has thus come as a big surprise, but African Times has established the reason behind his decision to tender his resignation.
“He was earning about 15,000 euros (R291,000) at Yanga, but he’s in talks with a team from Algeria called CR Belouizdad, where he’d earn around 40,000 euros (R776,000),” revealed our source, who’s privy to the information.
Ramovic, who couldn’t be reached for a comment as he was travelling to Algeria, is a well-known figure in South African football, having fared well with Mpumalanga club, TS Galaxy.
Back in 2023, he guided the ‘Rockets’ to the Carling Knockout Final but fell at the last hurdle, having lost 5-4 on penalties to Stellenbosch FC in a match played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
Ironically, he resigned from his TS Galaxy job in November 2024 live on television after a league match against Stellenbosch FC, citing the club’s selling of its best players as a major concern.
“In the end, I would like to win something, and if you sell every year half of your team and start from scratch again, it’s not that easy, because it takes a lot of energy,” said Ramovic.
The eccentric Ramovic has been courted by North African clubs for quite some time.
In August 2024, he was on the verge of joining Moroccan side Raja Casablanca, but the deal fell through after disagreements over his backroom staff, with Raja apparently refusing to let him bring in his own people.
He then joined forces with Yanga until his resignation on Tuesday.
“My time at Young Africans has been one of the most beautiful and enriching experiences of my life. This club has a bright future, and I have no doubt that it’ll continue to achieve great things,” said Ramovic, in his farewell statement.
