Seven wins, four draws, eight defeats, and a massive 29 points behind the leaders. This is the story of Kaizer Chiefs’ 2024/25 season in the Betway Premiership.
Chiefs are fresh from a 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday in Pretoria, and as a result, Amakhosi have 25 points compared to 54 for the Brazilians.
The huge gap is a clear indication of the differences between the two sides. While Chiefs are battling to replicate their past glory days, Sundowns are dominating the league.
However, Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi remains positive, despite no end in sight to the club’s struggles.
“I’m not here for the money, because you know there’s too much talk in the media about my salary, and I promise you every day I have a proposition in big clubs with three times more salary than I receive here,” Nabi fired back, in conversation with the media after the Sundowns clash at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.
Chiefs finished 10th last season after suffering 12 defeats, and this season, things are no different.
However, the Tunisian has insisted that it’s a work in progress, and as such, he’s not about to jump ship.
“I have a mission here with Kaizer Chiefs. I have a mission; I’m not here for the money, and I love this club. I am strong; I don’t lose my confidence quickly like that because my history is big,” he said.
“… I know what I’m doing, and I will get it right.”
Chiefs will return to league action when they host Magesi FC at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, 4 March.
However, their biggest hope for silverware will be in the Nedbank Cup, where they have made it to the quarter-finals and will play Stellenbosch on Saturday, 8 March, in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.
