UN Recognises India’s Progress In Achieving The Sustainable Development Goals

India has made significant strides in reducing poverty, expanding electrification and access to drinking water, and improving sanitation. This was stated by Natalia Kanem, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in an interview with ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.

She said that partnering with a republic that is achieving such results is a source of pride for the organisation.

“The momentum and acceleration of progress in India are exciting. It’s inspiring to see India as a prime example of positive transformation. When India moves the needle, much changes across communities, particularly in rural areas,” said Kanem.

The UNFPA Executive Director also highlighted the country’s development of South-South cooperation, including by helping nations in the region and beyond to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

In addition, Kanem highlighted India’s success in the technology sector. She said India’s innovations in digital services are making life easier in remote areas as residents can access essential government services directly from their mobile phones.

As ANI specifies, the visit of the UN representative to the republic is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of India-UNFPA partnership.
