Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi is staying put at Naturena despite advances from the Tunisian Football Association.

The 59-year-old has been a subject of interest from the Tunisian FA, who had earmarked him for their senior national team coaching job.

The North Africans were reportedly very keen that they were prepared to pay Amakhosi a compensation of $700,000 (R12.9m) to lure Nabi back home.

Nabi, however, has decided he’s got unfinished business in South Africa. He’s been in charge of Chiefs’s first team since July 2024, and breaking his silence on Tunisia’s interest, he has admitted that he was indeed approached.

“I have been offered an opportunity to go coach my country,” Nabi confirmed after Chiefs beat Stellenbosch FC 1-0 at the Athlone Stadium on Friday evening, 7 February.

“We have sat together, and we have decided that I’m going to pass this big opportunity to coach my country,” he continued.

“I’d like to say thank you to Dr. Kaizer Motaung (Chiefs Executive Chairman), to Kaizer Junior (Sporting Director), Bobby Motaung (Football Manager), and the entire management,” Nabi concluded.

Reports suggest that former Tunisia national team player Sami Trabelsi is set to take over as their head coach, pending a finalization of his contract and backroom staff.

Meanwhile, former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has ruffled some feathers by making comments that Nabi is trying his best at Chiefs, but the project isn’t convincing.

“Kaizer Chiefs, okay, Nabi is trying to do something, he’s getting there. He’s not really convincing, I guess he’s trying his best,” said Mosimane, in conversation with radio station, 5FM, recently.

Chiefs are fourth on the PSL standings with 25 points after 17 matches – a whopping 14 points behind the log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have three games in hand over Chiefs.
