The suspended director for supply chain management in the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) in KwaZulu-Natal has resigned from his position before he could face a disciplinary hearing for his alleged corrupt deeds.
Sibusiso Mncadi threw in the towel in a letter dated 17 February 2025 which was sent to the Head of Department (HoD), Dr Joey Krishnan.
He joins two other senior officials who left the department under a dark cloud after being charged for alleged tender irregularities.
“Kindly be advised that I am tendering my resignation as a Director: Supply Chain Management with KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs with immediate effect,” Mncadi said in his resignation letter.
Mncadi was suspended in September last year for alleged financial misconduct that occurred before the May 2024 general elections.
He was suspended together with Yali Joyi, the former chief financial officer (CFO) who resigned on January 6, and Ntombizethu Dlamini, the director for local economic development (LED) project support who followed in her footsteps a few days later, and two others.
Mncadi’s departure means that three of the five suspended officials have left the department while two are still on suspension.
Those still on suspension for alleged misappropriation of funds are the director for credit management V Lugongolo, the deputy director for public participation, S Dumakude and Nathi Mpungose, the chief director of the traditional affairs division in the department.
The spokesperson for the department, Senzo Mzila, did not respond when African Times asked him about the high profile resignation.
