Royal AM’s days are numbered as the South African Revenue Service (SARS) is set to sell the club in just eight days.
Since January this year, SARS has placed Royal Andile Mpisane Football Club under curatorship to collect on a large tax bill from the club’s president, businesswoman Shauwn Mkhize.
Mkhize reportedly owes SARS over R40 million, and with Royal AM linked to her family trust, the club will be sold to recoup some of the money.
In a public notice, the curator has provided details of the sale.
On 14 March, bidders will be at liberty to put in their offers from 8am to 1pm on the same day. Only those that have deposited a refundable R1 million will be considered.
Three days later, on 17 March, the successful bidder would be announced.
Royal AM will be sold as a “going concern,” which means whoever buys it will do so with all the club’s liabilities, including the over R12 million owed to their former striker Samir Nurkovic.
World football governing body FIFA found in Nurkovic’s favour and ordered Royal AM to pay out his three-year contract after it was terminated without “just cause” in July 2022.
Furthermore, Royal AM has not played a match in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) since December last year, and as of today, they are about 10 matches behind. It’s not clear at this stage if the PSL would expel the club or not, but recently they were booted out of the Nedbank Cup owing to their troubles with SARS.
According to recent reports, the players have not received their salaries for February.
Royal AM was introduced to the league when they bought the status of the revered Bloemfontein Celtic ahead of the 2021/22 season.
While a PSL status is believed to be worth over R50 million, SARS is believed to be ready to settle for R15 million considering the club’s liabilities, and its uncertain future in the league.
