The South African Revenue Services (SARS) assisted by the police and other state agencies have raided the homes and businesses of businesswoman, Shauwn Mkhize (MaMkhize) in Kwazulu-Natal and Gauteng.
The Hollywood style raids were undertaken at premises in Durban, Pietermaritzburg (where she owns farms) and Sandton in Johannesburg.
The two state entities were raiding these homes and businesses as part of Mkhize’s R20 million debt to SARS. The SARS debt has spilled over to Mkhize’s son, Andile Mpisane, who owns Royal AM, a soccer team that plays in the Betway premiership and Royal Salon, one of Mkhize’s businesses.
The raid was authorised by the Durban High Court on November 21, 2024. It authorised SARS to search and seize assets. It is understood that SARS marked the assets to be preserved and later to be sold to pay off the tax debt Mkhize accumulated over the past few years.
According to information obtained by The African Times at the time of the raid, the police ended up detaining a security guard who was manning the gates of Mkhize’s mansion in the suburb of La Lucia.
The guard was found guarding the mansion with guns that are allegedly not licensed and he was taken to Durban North police station for questioning and processing.
