Wydad Casablanca coach Rulani Mokwena says he has no intention to leave the club during the season.
Behind the scenes, Wydad and Mokwena have reportedly agreed to part ways at the end of the season.
This followed widespread reports that the South African was on the verge of leaving Wydad last week, amid reports that he had not been paid for eight months. However, Mokwena has insisted he’s staying.
“I’m here, and I’ll finish the season with Wydad AC. I won’t leave through the back door, but I’ll leave with respect for the fans and football lovers in Morocco and around the world,” he commented after the 1-1 draw against bitter rivals, Raja Casablanca, over the weekend.
Mokwena is on a three-year contract with Wydad and was expected to guide the side at the FIFA 2025 Club World Cup starting in June in the United States (US).
But the agreement to part ways at the end of the season has put paid to that dream, and instead, Mokwena will be returning home to South Africa.
For now, however, Mokwena’s focus is on helping Wydad finish second in the Morocco Botola to qualify for the 2025/26 CAF Champions League.
Wydad are third on the standings, four points behind second-placed AS FAR with four matches remaining.
