King Misuzulu KaZwelithini has filled the first critical post that was left vacant last week he abruptly fired Prince Simphiwe of KwaMinyamanzi as his representative in the KwaZulu-Natal House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders, and in the National House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders in Cape Town.

The Zulu King has since appointed Prince Sylope Gumbela Zulu from the Mandlakazi Royal House in Nongoma to take over the position.

This is contained in a letter seen by the African Times dated 23 January 2025. The letter was sent by KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) to Inkosi Sifiso Shinga, the chairperson of the KwaZulu-Natal House of traditional leaders.

“His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has appointed Prince Sylope Gumbela Zulu as His Majesty’s Representative effective 18 January 2025. Prince Sylope Gumbela replaces Prince Simphiwe Zulu of KwaMinyamanzi Royal Palance(sic) who previously played this role and was terminated effective 18 January 2025. I attach copies of the King’s correspondence in this regard,” reads part of the letter.

According to the letter, Prince Gumbela will also occupy the same position in the national house in Cape Town.

“According to our law, Prince Sylope Gumbela Zulu will represent His Majesty in the National as well as in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial House of Traditional and Khoisan Leaders.

“We look forward to your support and collaboration with Prince Sylope Gumbela Zulu as he undertakes this significant responsibility.

“His appointment signifies a continued commitment to the values and traditions that we all hold dear. Nina beNdlovu enamandla! Siyathokoza,” reads the letter.

Meanwhile, the marriage between King Misuzulu and Nomzamo Myeni is still “called-off”. Early last week, the Myenis were informed about the monarch’s decision. The message was communicated by a delegation that was sent to the Myeni family, led by Induna Nyawo (first name not known), one of the trusted emissaries of the king.

The delegation gave the Myenis a cow as a sign of extending an apology for calling off the traditional marriage. The reason was that the King is still in seclusion and the royal house is unable to host the wedding and or any festivity.
