Ethiopia Seeks Co-operation With BRICS Nations On Sustainable Forestry And Climate Initiatives

Ethiopia’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) participated in a policy dialogue hosted by the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA)

Ethiopia is looking to enhance cooperation with other BRICS countries on sustainable forestry and reforestation following its recent participation in BRICS discussions on climate change and a just transition at the African Union (AU).

Jafar Bedru, Executive Director of Institute of Foreign Affairs, emphasised that Ethiopia is keen to use its membership of BRICS to share knowledge and adopt best practices in sustainable forestry and reforestation.

He noted that Ethiopia’s partnership with other BRICS countries will strengthen its capacity to implement climate-resilient and low-carbon development strategies that are in line with the AU Agenda 2063. This is reported by ENA, a partner of TV BRICS.

The workshop aimed to strengthen the voice of BRICS countries on climate change measures and the just transition agenda, and to promote knowledge sharing and strengthen the network of think tanks within BRICS.

The dialogue brought together Evgeny Terekhin, Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia, representatives of BRICS think tanks, AU officials and various researchers to highlight the collective desire to confront climate challenges in Africa.
