The Brazilian government has published a document summarising the priorities of its BRICS presidency.
Two priorities are listed – cooperation in the Global South and partnership for social development – which are divided into six central areas: cooperation in global health, trade and finance, climate change issues, governance of artificial intelligence, reform of the multilateral peace and security architecture and institutional development.
In the area of global health cooperation, the need for increased investment in research and production of medicines and vaccines is mentioned. This is reported by Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.
The document also mentions the need to protect personal data and ensure the integrity of information for the ethical, safe, secure and responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies.
The BRICS chairmanship rotates on a rotating basis. Each year, the country leading the association organises a summit of heads of state. In 2025, the meeting is due to take place in Rio de Janeiro.
