ANC Used CODESA Negotiations To Address White Fears Instead Of Freeing Blacks – SACP Leader

South African Communist Party (SACP) Provincial Secretary Themba Mthembu made these claims on Thursday during a roundtable discussion organized by Xubera Institute.

A leader of the South African Communist Party (SACP) in KwaZulu-Natal has made bold claims that during the negotiations, the ANC focused on managing white fears and abandoned black people.

Themba Mthembu who is the provincial secretary of the communist party also claimed that the coalition the country has now was hatched back in 1986 during the early stages of the negotiations between the ANC and the apartheid government.

Mthembu made these claims on Thursday during a roundtable discussion organized by Xubera Institute. His comments remained hidden until on Sunday Xubera started releasing the videos of his speech.

“This thing of the coalition did not start on May 29 (election day), it started way back in 1986, not even during the CODESA negotiations. It was decided that by this time there will be a coalition. What is also causing this is that during the negotiations when we were supposed to negotiate on how to free black people, we negotiated on how to address white fears.

“That is the outcome of the negotiations, it was not about the black aspirations, but it was about how to address white fears. This is what you are seeing right now,” Mthembu claimed.

He also made claims that the ANC has been captured by “capital” to an extent that it is now dancing to the tune of the latter.

“Actually it was capital that decided that the ANC should be in power, that was because there were falling profits (for white companies) that could be only addressed by introducing the so-called majority government,” Mthembu told the gathering, adding that “capital” doesn’t like the ANC.

Mthembu also said immediately after the negotiations, capital came up with four layers to defend their gains from the periods of colonialism and apartheid. According to him, they came up with the current constitution and also captured the ANC.

“Our constitution makes it difficult to bring changes that will benefit the majority. That’s why we say they ended up addressing white fears.

“The second one (layer of defence) was to capture the African National Congress from you to be the tool of the corporate world and they are succeeding,” he said.
