Members of the ANC’s National Working Committee (NWC) will spend the weekend in KwaZulu-Natal to brief party structures regarding the reconfiguration of the provincial executive committee (PEC).

The NWC would also outline what the new structure that will take over from the PEC would do in the coming months and ahead of the 2026 local government elections, according to the party’s invitation letter seen by African Times.

The ANC at national level recently resolved to reconfigure the PECs in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng after the two provinces performed badly at the polls last year.

Reports indicate that the ANC has resolved to bring party heavyweights Jeff Radebe and Mike Mabuyakhulu on board to guide the ship. They will work alongside ousted KwaZulu-Natal Chairperson Siboniso Duma and his Gauteng counterpart Panyaza Lesufi.

On the other hand, ANC top brass decided to dump the controversial KwaZulu-Natal provincial secretary, Bheki Mtolo, whose gaffes are believed to have alienated conservative voters in the province.

The meeting with structures in the Mbuso Kubheka region in northern KwaZulu-Natal will take place at Majuba TVET College in the township of Madadeni.

“Greetings ANC Secretaries! The National Working Committee (NWC) will be visiting ANC Regions of KZN to brief structures on the reconfiguration of structures in the Province… The invitation is extended strictly to BEC (branch executive committee) officials (Top 5),” reads an invitation that was sent out by Chris Mhlophe, the regional secretary.

The national spokesperson of the ANC, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri confirmed that NWC members will be in KwaZulu-Natal to meet with structures in all the 11 regions.

“All regions will be met on Saturday and Sunday,” she said.
