The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal has swiftly moved to prevent a total split with the South African National Civic Organisation, the fourth member of the alliance.
Yesterday, the party met with the civic organization’s leadership to iron out their differences and map a way forward following last week’s “divorce.”
The meeting over the matter continued today (Monday) and it was joined by COSATU and the SACP in the province.
The meeting was called after last week SANCO announced that it was cutting ties with the ANC citing several factors. Among them was that the provincial leadership of the ANC was snubbing them.
The provincial secretary of SANCO, Sizwe Cele further expanded on the matter during one of the local podcasts where he said their relationship with the ANC was so poor that they went to the elections without meeting and sharing strategies.
The African Times was informed by COSATU and SANCO leaders that immediately after the “divorce” the ANC organised a meeting to iron out the differences.
“That’s why our provincial chairperson, Lawrence Dube attended the ANC’s renewal programme in the Harry Gwala region on Sunday. It was part of the agreement that there must be reconciliation after the fallout,” a leader of SANC said.
A COSATU leader confirmed that there are ongoing talks to resolve the matter and reconcile the two parties.
“There are ongoing talks and SANCO will be back in the alliance in the province. The ANC is not ready to allow anyone to leave at this moment,” the COSATU leader said.
The spokesperson of the ANC in the province, Mafika Mndebele said the alliance will issue a formal statement after today’s meeting.
“The alliance will issue a statement after a political council,” Mndebele said.
