Another bullet has been found placed on the doorsteps of the MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure in KwaZulu-Natal, Martin Meyer.
This time around the bullet was found placed on the doorstep of the Durban offices on Monday, February 3, while the previous one found last year was placed on the doorsteps of the Pietermaritzburg offices.
“KwaZulu-Natal Public Works and Infrastructure MEC, Martin Meyer, has opened a case with the SA Police Service after a bullet was found placed on the doorstep of his office, in Durban, on Monday, the 3rd of February 2025.
“The bullet was found by staff members who had been reporting to the office in the morning, as per usual, and the relevant authorities were then contacted. MEC Meyer was also alerted of the findings as he was not in the office at the time,” Meyer’s department said in a statement this morning.
Ever since taking office in June last year, Meyer has been up against KwaZulu-Natal construction mafias who have been disrupting projects and demanding payments from contractors. Construction Mafia is a phrase which refers to a group of businessmen and individuals who extort money from companies in the name of 30% stakes for local communities in government projects. They threaten, attack, kill or disrupt the projects of those who don’t comply.
The KwaZulu-Natal Public Works department added that it is troubling that this latest incident takes place as Meyer, along with office staff were returning to work after hosting a very successful two-day Build Better KZN conference at the Durban ICC.
At the workshop, Meyer had reiterated that the event will not be an envelope exchange platform for underhanded deals.
“KZN Public Works and Infrastructure is currently taking a strong stance against corruption and fraud with a number of senior officials facing disciplinary processes and some even dismissed.
“In response to the latest bullet incident, MEC Meyer is adamant that no amount of threats will deter him from rooting out corruption and malfeasance within the department.”
The department also said Meyer remains committed to continuing in the positive trajectory that KZN Public Works and Infrastructure finds itself, adding it strives to work for the people of KZN once again.
