The ANC NWC (National Working Committee) meeting with the provincial executive committee of the ANC in KwaZulu, billed for this Saturday in Boksburg, has been postponed to Monday.
The “compulsory” meeting comes amid wide speculations that the NWC will inform the PEC chaired by Siboniso Duma that it would be disbanded and replaced with a provincial task team (PTT).
Sources said the task team is likely to be led by ANC heavyweight Mike Mabuyakhulu, assisted by Siphile Mdaka and include the likes of James Nxumalo, former minister Sbu Ndebele and Sipho Gcabashe. It would lead the process to rebuild the party in the province following a dismal performance in the May 29 elections.
The postponement of the meeting was announced by provincial secretary, Bheki Mtolo, in a note to PEC members seen by African Times.
“Dear comrades, we have been notified by HQ that the meeting is no longer on Saturday but Monday at 11h00. Please note that we will book early flights so that we all arrive on time.
“Cdes (Comrades) who reside in Ethekwini, Tolomane, Moses Mabhida & General Gizenga will take 6h00am flights & those coming from the other regions will be booked 08h30 flights. Please note that there’s traffic going to the airport from Durban, you are requested to be early so that you don’t get stuck in traffic and miss the flight,” reads the memo.
Mtolo also shared mooted travelling arrangements with the PEC ahead of the meeting.
“We are arranging a dedicated shuttle service to drop PEC members at the venue & return them to the airport after meeting. The details of the shuttle service will be communicated together with flight details to each member booked,” Mtolo’s office wrote to the PEC members.
The national spokesperson of the ANC, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, confirmed to the African Times that the meeting has been postponed to Monday.
