The first wife of King Misuzulu KaZwelithini of the Zulu nation has broken silence regarding several issues within the royal family and herself.

Queen Ntokozo Mayisela says despite her absence during several royal events, she is still committed to the throne and marriage to the King.

“I would like to assure the Zulu nation that I remain fully dedicated to the Zulu throne. My love and passion for this beautiful nation, along with my commitment to building and supporting it, have never wavered and will never change. My absence is purely a private matter, one of which His Majesty the King is fully aware,” she said in a statement.

The queen also used the statement to address several rumors which include claims that she recently gave birth.

“I have two very handsome sons. No, I have not given birth to any other child besides my boys,” she said in the statement.

The Queen also addressed the King’s marriage to Queen Nomzamo Myeni from Jozini. She said he was never informed about it.

“I have no objection to isithembu (polygamy). However, I learned about my husband’s marriage through social media, alongside the rest of South Africa. I have never met his new queen and, quite honestly, do not know anything about her.

“I have never received or accepted any gifts from her, as she has never been introduced to me. No discussions involving me took place regarding her lobola or any related matters. There is no quarrel between us,” she said.

Queen Mayisela concluded by saying the “attacks” on her has caused distress on her family.

“I continue to reside in my palace, kwaNkomonye in Ulundi. My protectors have never been removed from me or my children. The constant attacks and defamation of my character on social media have caused me and my children great distress. To those responsible, I ask that you bear in mind that, as much as I am a public figure, I am also a mother—a role that gives me the inherent right to protect myself and my children,” she added.

The traditional prime minister to the Zulu monarch and nation, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi confirmed that the statement came from the queen.
