Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Chairperson, Advocate Dali Mpofu, has left the EFF to join the recently formed Umkhonto WeSizwe (MK) Party. In an interview with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) on Thursday morning, Mpofu said he is joining the MK Party because it represents a broader vision for decolonization and total liberation.
Mpofu explained that he believes the MK Party is best positioned to bring about the unity he envisions for South Africa.
“I am of the view now that the party that really represents my own passion for the much needed (progressive black) unity is MK” said Mpofu. “The MK has been, so far, true to the message of fostering unity”
Mpofu emphasized that he sees the MK Party as a vehicle to achieve unity among South Africans. “I am joining MK because I believe it is the vehicle through which we will achieve the much needed black and progressive unity”. he added.
Mpofu also revealed that he played a central role in the formation of the MK Party and that the EFF was well informed of his activities. He noted that his move should not be seen as a rejection of the EFF or any other organization.
Mpofu’s departure follows those of other prominent figures who have also left the EFF for the MK Party including Former EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu, and Former Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane
