Iran Increases Exports Of Persian Handmade Carpets

Iran’s National Centre for Creative Industries and Carpets reported a significant increase in the production of hand-woven carpets in the first four months of the current Persian year (started in Iran on March 20). This growth was accompanied by an increase in exports. This is reported by IRNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

A total of 1.35 million square meters of hand-woven carpets were produced across the country, a significant increase compared to the same period last year.

The acting head of the centre, Mohammadreza Zare-Borzeshi, noted that the production of handmade carpets has shown steady growth for the past three years, with 3.9 million square meters produced between March 21, 2023, and March 19, 2024.

According to experts, several factors have contributed to the growth in exports, including the easing of currency restrictions, resolving problems related to the temporary importation of handmade carpets, and the introduction of a certification system for handmade carpets.

Currently, individuals are allowed to export up to 24 square meters of Persian handmade carpets through the postal services once a year with no limit on the number of pieces, provided the total area does not exceed the prescribed limits.
