The Department of Home Affairs and the Border Management Agency (BMA) have announced the introduction of drones to monitor the country’s borders during the upcoming Easter long weekend where cross-border movement is expected to intensify.
The department, and its agency tasked with managing South Africa’s ports of entries, also announced the introduction of body cameras for selected staff interacting with travellers.
This was announced by Dr Leon Schreiber, the Minister for Home Affairs in Pretoria today, 10 April 2025.

CAF Confirms Champions League Semifinal Dates
The battle between South Africa and Egypt in the CAF Champions League semifinals will kick off in Gauteng in just over a week.
According to CAF Online, the first legs will take place in South Africa.
Mamelodi Sundowns will face the reigning champions and Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly on Friday, 18 April, but the venue is yet to be confirmed.
However, it’s most likely to be at Loftus Stadium in Pretoria.

Wydad president Hicham Ait Mena has categorically denied claims that South African coach Rulani Mokwena has not been paid his salary for months.
It emerged on Tuesday, 8 April, that Mokwena, alongside his technical team, has been offering a ‘free service’ for eight (8) months.
Mokwena joined the club in July 2024 and recruited some of his countrymen, such as Sinethemba Badela and Allan Freese, to make up the technical staff.

The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) in the Eastern Cape has been asked to institute an investigation into the tender that was awarded by the ANC-run Amahlathi Local Municipality to demolish old municipal offices in the town of Stutterheim.
